Congratulations!

You’re an author; a
writer with printed
work!

Here are some great ideas
you can use to market your
book and make it a success!

Family and Friends
If you’re as excited as most
people about your book being
published, you’ve probably
already told your family and
friends. Why not send a small
e-mail or even a free copy to
your friends and family and
ask them to forward that
e-mail to their friends…or to
recommend the book to their
friends?

If you do this, you will be
marketing in one of the oldest
and best ways – word of
mouth. It doesn’t stop there,
though. You can use word of
mouth marketing to market
your book to people you
don’t even know.

Contact Successful People in Your Niche
Are there authors that you
worship? Do you know experts
in your niche that you could
send copies of your book to?
If it’s possible to take a small
risk and send a few copies to
those authors or experts,
do it. Simply ask them to
look over your book and recommend it if they think
it will go over well with their
readers!

Of course, include the fact
that you highly respect their
opinion and would like to
know what they think!

Create a Website
If you haven’t already created
a website for your book, do so now! By taking advantage of search engine traffic, you can sell copies of your book without doing a single thing but allowing people to view the information
on your website. With a virtual checkout (such as PayPal or something similar) individuals can instantly buy a copy –
all you have to do is send!

Create a Blog
A blog (weblog) is sort of like
an online journal. You can make posts (entries) about whatever you want. In this case, it would be about your book – or the
topic of your book. Explain
some of your theories, go over some of the things covered in your book (not all or you’ll give
it away) or something else
that’s related to the book. This can do a lot to create interest
in your book and make it a success.

Social Networking
By using social networking
sites like Digg, StumbleUpon, MySpace or Facebook, you
can make your book ‘viral.’
That means you will have people passing it around as
fast as a head cold – but
better than a head cold! This will help get your book noticed online.

Book Signings
Locally, you can hold book signings in order to promote
your book. Ask your local library, book store or even coffee shop to allow you to have a book signing there.
This will also create publicity
for your book if you advertise and let people know you’ll be there to sign copies!

Book Stores
Many authors dream of the
day they will walk into Barnes
& Noble or Walden Books and see their book on the shelf! Although it seems like a pipe dream, you can accomplish it. You can submit your book for consideration to different book stores by getting their submission info.

This may be available on their website, so that would be a
great place to start. You will want to send your book to the submission department, along with any marketing materials, media kits and reviews. You should add a personalized note letting them know why you
think it should be included.

Marketing your book is an absolute must if you want it
to be a success! Using these ideas can help you get your book into the stores, into the hands of people who are interested, and into the best seller list!
