Strategic's Exhibit Report
Frankfurt Buchmesse - Frankfurt Book Fair

The Frankfurt Book Fair was a phenomenal success for the authors who accompanied us to the fair as well as the books that were on display in our booth. Author appearance schedules were announced in the daily news handed out to all attendees, and we grew quite the crowd!

Although I was excited to learn about new and inventive progress being make in book production and marketing, our main focus was on presenting our authors’ works in the hopes of attracting interested buyers of foreign rights. I can only begin to tell you about all of the connections made. Not only did high profile publishers come to us, but we worked with our authors on presenting themselves to companies throughout the fair – and our authors were amazing in promoting their books.I’ve listed only a few of the countries and their interest below just to give you an idea of what we accomplished, but there are many more SBP is actively following up on. Each author who was there made at least one solid connection.

China

We made several connections with the Chinese market including Nanfang
Leveled Reading Media Company Ltd., the largest publisher of children’s literature in China.

We can thank the personal presence of author Nick Powers and his charming tome about a leprechaun in The Amazing Adventures of Paudie for catching lots of attention to our booth.  Most Chinese companies expressed a great interest in literature for children, but there was also an interest in historical fiction and culture related literature. Currently we are in negotiations for two of our authors and following up on many more based on the genres that the companies expressed interest.

Greece

Minoas Editions out of Greece has requested negotiations for rights about our adult literature.

India

Placka Information Technologies Private Limited of India is reviewing several of our books with a special interest in a novel by author Pearl Harbour titled Don Juan’s True Love

Thailand

We are beginning negotiations with Page One in Thailand for author Huge Bowen’s book Reversal, and there is an expressed interest in other titles of the same genre.

Turkey

Publisher Zeynep Özen was drawn to our children’s literature and I will be submitting information on several titles we have under contract.

Poland

We have four contacts in Poland including Wydawnictwo
Zielona Sowa. We are following up with children’s titles as well as a biographical work by author Gunilla Miranda titled Nobel Prize to Ride On Mower. Polish publishers expressed interest  in more about titles we had on display, and I will be in contact with them over the next few weeks to give information on those books.

UK

Ransom Publishing from the UK was one of several companies interested in Michael Estepa’s work.

Philippines

RBSI International from the Philippines expressed interest in hard hitting novels – especially Purged By Darkness from author Michael Estepa.  Other publishers from the UK included Stanford Publishing, a cutting edge company with a specialty in technical and medical books for both professionals and general readership.

Australia

Brolga Publishing was one of four Australian publishers expressed interest in several of our titles. So many more!! We are working with Erin Allen in places like Jakarta. Lillian Skamsar sought out publishers for SciFi and brought back contacts for publishers that span four separate countries. Gunilla Miranda had people in line to discuss her book. And don’t even get me started on Stephen Tait’s true story of an exploration in Antarctica!

We will keep you posted as our authors continue to rise to the top as we move forward – and onto London in April!

Excitedly yours,
Nancie – Director of Expo Marketing

Ps… The evidence is incontrovertible. These shows are GREAT for our authors. In 2010 we WILL be attending the major book shows in London, NY, Beijing, and Germany.  We will begin sending announcements and space reservation invitations in mid-November.
