Libraries will buy your book!
For more information on getting your book on library book shelves, email us.
This is a very simple idea, and yet, very powerful. By starting with your local libraries, you will see book sales immediately as they buy the book, AND it sets the stage for your book to be picked up nationally. Once you are 'in the family' so to speak, it really helps move your book nationally.
What has worked for our authors:
1) Ask friends, family members who have library cards to go to the library and simply request the book. They usually say they heard about it and would like to check it out. The librarian double checks the catalogue, then orders it. When the book comes in, he/she contacts the requestor and the requestor goes in to pick it up. NOTE; IF THE BOOK IS NOT IN THE CATALOG, IT WILL BE. IT TAKES A WHILE FOR THE DATA FEED TO GET INTO THEIR DATABASE.
2) Also send Press releases to Acquisitions Librarians. Pick up the phone and see how your local/regional library buying system works. They are helpful and to tell the truth, they like the attention. Find out who makes the buying decision for your local region.
Here is one client's testimonial: "I also walked into a library in Ohio and met the librarian who ordered for the district and gave her a copy of my book. She not only set me up for a book discussion, she also ordered 56 copies for the multiple libraries with her district".
To see if your book is in the library, please visit:
http://www.worldcat.org/advancedsearch and choose ISBN from the drop down.
http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/351296022&referer=brief_results is a page showing one of our authors that is in a law library AND in a Hong Kong library. Very cool!
We also have some powerful book launch techniques that involve libraries. If/when you contact your library, ask them if they would support a local author book launch party in a library? They like the attendance and it is a win-win for everyone. If they say yes, then contact us and we will help you with the next step.
Now, as the Nike ad says, "Just do it!".

Here is a great testimony to the fact this works!

Hello All:
Just wanted to share Althea's Library information email with you. Bev's sample letter below I thought was brilliant, so I used it and changed it to pertain to my book. I sent letters out yesterday and received my first response today. It was a YES, and see her response below to see what else she has in store for me...
Not bad for a first try.

Hello Glenn,
I have decided to purchase your book for our library in Columbia. I have it on order through our vendor, Ingram.
When it arrives, I wonder if you would like to do a short blog piece for our Saxton Reads & Reviews blog as a way of introducing it to our readers. We have featured several guest bloggers, many debut authors, with great interest on the blog.
Most author websites give a great deal of information about their books.
I'm looking for something more personal, a bit about you, what compelled you to write the story, and a bit about your writing life. You can read a post from Theresa Walsh on October 20th on our blog located at
http://www.engagedpatrons.org/Blogs.cfm?SiteID=9336&BlogID=183
I will include the blog link in the book and also feature it at our circ desk.
I also wonder if you would be interested in doing a book talk & signing at our library. A group of libraries will be conducting the second annual Connecticut author trail this summer. Scheduled authors visit various libraries and patrons attending get passports stamped and can win prizes for attending the talks at each library. Chris Knopf, Susam Campblell, Pam Lewis, are just a few signed up. It kicks off Thurs. July 8th. There are approx. 13 libraries promoting Connecticut's fine authors. There will be a finale at Mohegan Sun with all authors invited and able to sell their books. Donald Bain will be the keynote author that evening.
Last year's event was a real hit with patrons and Mohegan Sun alike.
There are still some dates available. Tues or Wed nights are best for me but I can be flexible. Let me know and we'll work out a date.
Thanks,
Carol

Library Idea #2 - Email the libraries of the US to carry your book
This is a very simple idea as well. This is an email from one of our employee/authors named Bev Walton-Porter. Bev is very successful as both an author, and an editor, and a book marketer and we are proud to work with her. Once you read the email below you will see what we mean. Please feel free to copy and paste and create your own letter to libraries. Her format is perfect, so don't deviate too much.

Hi Rob & Andie, Here is a sample of the library letter I e-mailed to libraries in various places/states to get my book into their system. I basically searched library systems throughout cities/states in the U.S., went to their websites and grabbed the appropriate e-mail contact info for the person at each library who was in charge or obtaining new inventory/books for the library system in that city/state. Authors will, of course, need to change the info to suit their circumstances, but this'll give you an idea of how mine read. Andie, I'm sending you a copy as well. From this, perhaps you can use a template that will be helpful for SBG authors. Bev -- Radio Manager

After a search of World Library Catalog (http://www.worldcatlibraries.org), I noticed my writing reference book, Sun Signs for Writers, isn't yet listed in your library catalog.
